SFH work in South Sudan

SFH work in South Sudan

In July 2021, Society for Family Health-South Sudan was established and born out of SFH Rwanda with a desire to support the Ministry of Health- South Sudan in Malaria prevention as well as improving primary healthcare through getting quality health services closer to communities.

Since the Inception, SFH leadership held collaboration meetings with Ministry of Health South-Sudan officials, including the MoH Undersecretary-Dr. Victoria Anib Mjur and the Head of national Malaria Program South Sudan-Dr. Ahmed Ismail Julla to align the partnership with the South Sudan national strategic goals and objectives.

On 09th August 2021, the Government of Central Equatorial State in collaboration with health partners, SFH Rwanda and SC Johnson, in an effort to build stronger health systems that will protect communities from diseases, has since established and launched a community health post in Gudele block 4 and equipped it to offer a comprehensive service package that includes maternity services which have greatly contributed to reduced travel distance for the residents of Gudele, thus, easing access to essential healthcare services.

The Gudele Community facility (2nd gen health-post) provides primary health services that include laboratory testing services, in/outpatient department, maternity, ophthalmology, and dental departmental services. In addition to these services, SFH Rwanda in partnership with the Ministry of Health South-Sudan recruited and trained personnel including 51 Community health promoters, they were also provided with teaching aids like flipbooks to support in social behaviour change communication while creating demand for available health care services.

The Government of the Republic of South Sudan supported this great initiative throughout the inception and implementation process and appreciates this partnership that will improve access to primary healthcare services, greatly contributing to Universal Health Coverage, reducing the travel distance for 15 thousand residents of Gudele, seeking non-communicable disease diagnostic like malaria, and maternity services.

SFH is grateful for its continued partnership and great collaboration with SC Johnson and the Government of South Sudan in improving the health and wellbeing for our communities by providing them with readily accessible life-saving products, accurate health information, and services that empower families to make informed and healthy choices therefore realizing a better, healthier world for all.
