Society for Family Health (SFH) Rwanda in partnership with Access Bank Ltd and Rwanda Biomedical Centre

Society for Family Health (SFH) Rwanda in partnership with Access Bank Ltd and Rwanda Biomedical Centre, will be addressing a press conference on the upcoming cancer screening and awareness campaign scheduled to take place on the 11th of November, 2016 at the Kigali Car Free Zone.
The Trio will therefore be organizing a full day activity to screen and create awareness of cancer with focus on breast cancer among women and girls. The partnership is geared towards inspiring healthier lives, connecting and empowering women both financially and socially.

During the Press Conference, the parties highlighted that the targeted audience for the screening and awareness raising are women aged 35 years and above.
“We call upon all women above 35 years to do early screening” Said Manasseh.
The current cancer patterns in Rwanda indicate that a significant proportion of the future cancer burden may be prevented by planning and implementing prompt preventive actions. The future increases in population and ageing are expected to contribute to further increases in cancer burden unless well planned prevention, early detection and treatment interventions are equitably scaled up across the country.
Prevention in Rwanda is based on (1) controlling unhealthy behaviours like consumption of tobacco and alcohol, (2) control of viral infections like hepatitis B and C causing risks of liver cancer, and Human Papilloma Virus causing Cervical Cancer and (3) early detection among others.
