Partnerships with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)
SFH Rwanda is committed to a strategy involving the use of its network of community-based organizations to reach key populations (KEPs) and at-risk groups. The use of these partnerships is meant to increase the scope of SFH’s behavioral change communication (BCC) interventions in a range of communities. SFH utilizes these existing partnerships to provide training materials on peer education, behavior change communication and social marketing techniques for community-based distribution. SFH also provides support and supervision for these partners in order to ensure delivery of quality and effective interventions in the key health areas.
CBOs play an important role in providing services at the community level due to the diverse involvement of these organizations in a number of areas including education and health. SFH is committed to the wise management of CBOs to ensure effectiveness of their contributions to the community.
CBOs, in partnership with SFH, provide a number of different intervention activities which focus on malaria, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, WASH, and family planning. These partnerships allow for increased distribution of SFH health products including condoms, water purifying products and contraceptives.
SFH works with 100 CBOs at a number of different levels. As of August 2014, among the 100 CBOs in partnership with SFH, 59 had a signed contract with SFH to conduct health activities, distribute health products, or do both. SFH conducts activities in all 30 districts of Rwanda and works with between two and four CBOs in each district.
